Gwen matchup: Gweb

Warwick matchup: Warwick with Exhaust, u literally cannot play ever, all his Cds are lower, his healing is better his damage is better earlygame, his 1v1 is just stronger he will beat the fuck out of u early mid late whenever. Simply just never interact with this champion in a 1v1 scenario and you'll probably be fine, be aware that if he can R u raw u lowk will just die so be ready to E dodge or space in a way where ur 2 millimeters from ur tower. Non exhaust version of this matchup is playable with good spacing but you still probably want a gank, also pray that ur team doesnt overstay cuz his W passive being perma up makes this way harder.

Anivia matchup: Tbh maybe she should be higher ignite anivia just feels so disgustingly oppressive to play into, she just outdamages u early. Gwen doesnt have the damage to 100-0 Anivia + passive and its very difficult to even get close to outtrading this champ in lane. She is also just a control mage so shes generally op and can make ur life outside of lane really hard. On top of this she has insanely good waveclear so even just scaling up and siding because theyre missing out on a toplaner to match can still be rough, if she has no passive u can space W to kill her under tower lategame so its fairly manageable.

Fiora matchup: I personally fucking hate Fioras damage output with both pta and conq, grasp is manageable. I think her E crit scaling needs to be nerfed, heavy skill matchup, use W spacing and youre probably fine. Never forget that if Fiora hits her entire ult on u no matter the situation it instantly becomes like 90% in her favour, so hug walls or honestly just run away if u have to theres no point in egoing into this.

Jax matchup: If Jax is even somewhat sentient I dont think u can ever kill this champ, but if u play really well u can survive lane and with good play outscale him, tho I still wouldnt recommend fighting him on side unless u really know the matchup well

Jayce matchup: I think if jayce is even remotely human u cant play, but most jayces arent so thats ur saving grace, u have oppurtunities to kill same as all matchups but I think hes very good at avoiding them with even mediocre play and he has very strong punish on u, sidestep every Q and dont stand on wave if u think hes gonna melee trade and ur fine.

Nasus matchup: I think this champ just molests u, but hes nasus so hes kinda useless even mid/late, esp with the gold increase of adcs and giant slayer being back hes not particularly a threat to the game, but the specific lane is fairly cooked. Just farm and chill/or play hyper aggro early if his spacing is bad and u can maybe get a kill or 2, but he hard outscales u at 1 item. Depending on stacks I'd say u can kill at like maybe 4 but u have to space W so he has to walk in to wither u, have ignite as well.

Rumble matchup: I personally fucking hate rumble earlygame i think this champ is so cringe and so digusting, avoid every E, best if u can sidestep and then use W to avoid his q and u should be able to trade well, same thing goes for post 6 just be aware of the R slow a decent rumble will attempt to time it to when ur W goes down so either E aggressively or like to the side in predict if ur able. U can beat him in overheat early but idk its such a tossup I avoid trying to.

Teemo matchup: I would say this matchup is honestly still in Gwens favour if u can escape his early game bullshit, but a good teemo can punish u fairly hard if u dont space very well, this champs game is like completely over to 1 jungle gank its not even funny just dont int and hes useless.

Yasuo matchup: I think the matchup is fairly in yas favour, there are points where u can kill early etc, 1 item spike is just so diff its not even funny, like u need to play fights so well to beat out a bork yas, hes moreso up here becuase he can cuck and target u in teamfights which can make game really hard.

Cassiopeia matchup: Fuck this champ avoid every q predict every R and u can win (u outscale tbh)

Tryndamere matchup: Take exhaust fuck this champ

Aurora matchup: I don't really see aurora that much anymore like at all they kinda killed this champ, there are better Gwen counterpicks that are both stronger outside of lane and easier to play so there's not much point in her as a counter. Lane can still be hard u need good spacing but killing her isn't the most difficult with good play, ghost works really well here imo most auroras will try to use their R tp to space out ur abilities, depending on the situation u can use ghost to just simply follow and run her down or use it to space out her abilities while u wait for R to go away.

Kayle matchup: While Swifties rush with Q max is very cringe u have a lot of oppurtunities to kill kayle in lane just due to R CD diff , and the fact that if u sidestep her q u have a fairly large window to trade early, an aggro Kayle early can be really difficult to deal with if she understands her champ and urs well enough. (But I wouldnt say this is common since shes kinda just counterpicked by randoms, so u have a lot more leeway for this.) But if she gets help during her downtime it becomes pretty impossible to kill and u just kinda have to turtle, you can kill her lategame with good play but chances are you will be focusing ur entire kit to kill her which is not often worth or even an option

Gragas matchup: Less common than last season, still a bitch to play into as are all phase rush champs, his damage output while being able to avoid u are insanely high, I've had Gragas' with catalyst outtrade my 150AP full stack Q with just 1 EQ. Never put urself in a situation where u can be combod while away from ur tower (so like 70% hp ish) and you'll be fine. Sidenote into a bad Gragas u can play turbo aggressive early and punish all of his bad spacing and u will win.

Irelia matchup: If Irelia is really good I think this matchup becomes one of the most skill heavy matchups for Gwen, you need to understand both what Irelia wants to do with the wave + Q and how u want to react to it, if you arent sure of even 1 of these Irelia can seriously fuck u up. She actually has good ability to run u down pre 6 regardless of hitting her E on u or not so just avoid it, same goes generally but if she has no wave and u avoid E or R u should win out in terms of damage. Post bork avoid her and W every E/R if she decides to try use it, you have the ability to win with like Nashors first and if u dont throw spells into her W but she becomes a serious threat with this item ideally u never walk forward or at least stand on ur wave. (If ur frozen beg ur jgl)

Quinn matchup: Don't die, ping every time she is offmap, pray ur jgl doesnt make dogshit topside plays, feast or famine champ dont give her kills she will be useless. You have quite a few options to kill quinn imo, post 6 if she wastes q theres probably a window to all in, similar to Jayce try to get her to E u where she wants to go so that she has to either space assumedly towards ur tower or at the least away from hers, makes it much easier to run her down. If she has bad spacing earlygame u can kill pre 6, lot of matchups in this tier go this way imo.

Ryze matchup: He scales well and hes just a general threat to the game esp a good ryze player (not that there are many) legit just attempt to abuse post 6, ur ult is obviously significantly better and shorter cd. Lowk ghost could be fire here but i havent really played into it at all this season we will see.

Urgot matchup: Good spacing and good W usage is all u really need for urgot, u can use ur W to avoid his e and this is preferable esp pre level 4-5 e when ur cd is way longer, after this point u can just e it on reaction as long as youre not point blank, dont disrespect the 1 item spike of urgot he genuinely can just OS u despite being ahead if ur not careful.

Wukong matchup: Earlygame is very playable for Gwen, level 9 + is when it becomes difficult because his Q can outspace yours and his damage is genuinely insanely high while being able to cc u, ideally on an all in wukong will W away to avoid Q/R dmg, if ur goated u dont throw Q or R into his clone and then u use W to immune ideally both his clone and main body R but doing just 1 is fine u should still be able to win, Rift op in this matchup.

Riven matchup: Take Exhaust, don't play into her let her play into you, if Riven is forced to use Q's to gapclose she will get outtraded by full stacks Q's as long as you react well, if shes spacing u off wave having to use Q's to gapclose can also push it which is favourable, go rift turtle and chill. Full bruiser build imo can beat Riven lategame.

Zaahen matchup: Champ is very strong, just got buffs, I think if he takes exhaust or rushes MR u cannot deal with him solo. Exhaust u can prolly get a kill with insanely good gameplay but its just not worth to flip imo this champ will become such a lane bully if u allow him to get ahead and will 1v9 every topside skirmish. His early trade pattern is turbo cringe u can trade your Q for his and come out on top but if youre trading full Q for his EQ which is fairly common u will lose out, esp considering his sustain, you will hard outscale at like 4-5 items. 3 if no MR but maw/hexdrinker is fairly common in my experience.

Malphite matchup: This fluctuates depending on what malph is building, if hes building AP its insanely rough but if u trade well every time u can win with good W spacing, but he obviously has insanely good fairly unavoidable gank setups while having high damage so hes one to be wary of, just never fight him when ur hit by his e. U wont often be in a situation where youre able to space ur W to avoid his E while trading because hes just gonna press q on u and run away with infinite mana. Universal malph tip if u can predict the ult generally just E towards him (unless ur point blank) because most malphs will ult directly on top of u or a little behind in order to catch ur e away so this can outplay and win u some scenarios. MR malph is killable if he stands in ur face and u have rift otherwise just ignore him and farm, cull kinda op here imo.

Olaf matchup: Dodge Axe, Dont ego u will win, be wary of his E range its quite high.

Pantheon matchup: I personally hate this matchup I think this champ is cringe, sidestep all q's, Q his W, E behind his E and u can win, if ur not confident then just farm up and chill you will hard outscale but also dont disrespect him because his damage isnt low mid/late.

Renekton matchup: I think this matchup is super duper cringe because its Renek and he does renek stuff, just outspace his Q's and respect his oneshot ability and youll be fine, another matchup where Rift is super good. Earlygame u will basically never win a 6+ all in if u havent started the fight with a full stack Q and he has like no rage/U W'd his emp q. Conq is harder than PTA imo because his gameplay for PTA is really simple and he will lose extended trades p hard, but conq esp with ignite can be really tough.

Yone matchup: A good Yone is hard but Flash Ignite makes this very playable, outspace his W's in lane to avoid poke and u can win level 6 all in as long as u avoid his Q3 or R, W can avoid both and with a little bit of luck and good spacing if hes directly on top of u and presses Q3 R he will dash to outside of ur W and do 0 damage and then u kill. Average bork matchup, once they get this item (Unless u have Nashors cuz u have enough damage to kill) avoid interacting its just not worth.

Cho'Gath matchup: This champ ranges based on if hes AP or Tank. Tank is obviously free I dont think anything needs to be said, just dont get hit by q's. AP becomes a lot harder, you have to sidestep Q's and W his W but if you do that its still fairly in your favour, if the game goes long enough AP cho can lowk just murk u outright in teamfights so be aware or end game quick. His sustain is very frustrating but u can put urself in a position to still space off cs/xp even if he gets the odd minion here or there with q, which makes ur lane easier too so its not that bad.

Rengar matchup: I havent played this matchup this season but ive played it previously, with Exhaust top now becoming a lore more commonplace I dont see how he can play. Even without exhaust just don't troll ur early by walking near bushes for 0 and u will just win at 1 item pref Rift, if he ever ults on u not near a bush and DOESNT root u hes dead like 9/10 times.

Vayne matchup: Just abuse vaynes bad waveclear, post level 9 when ur E cd is short u can beat this champ a lot but again respect her damage she always has the ability to kite and kill u so just keep ur wave on ur side of the map which tbh isnt that hard due to her shit waveclear. U can take exhaust if u really want with sweeper and it can make the matchup a lot harder for vayne. Avoid getting condemed into a wall under all circumstances.

Varus matchup: His ult CD being so much shorter than urs for basically the entire game is something to be majorly aware of this is the only way this champ can kill u imo, this plays like every other ranged matchup, either punish bad spacing or sit there and farm. Honorary Ghost mention for all ranged lanes.

Vladimir matchup: Vlad is potentialman. He HAS the ability to kill you and he HAS the ability to sustain forever in lane but it just never happens, dont get hit by emp Qs and play around ur wave with his E, every single time pool is on CD u probably have a kill opportunity

Trundle matchup: Dont overstep, dont waste E. This matchup is a Gwen IQ test, if youre not stupid enough to waste ur E in his face you will never die to this champ imo. E his pillar if hes using it to trade and if he R's u from range then pop R1 for slow and then space ur W to kill him for free, if he flashes anything u will probably lose so predict it if u want kill, if you dont and hes already pressed ER and ur wave isnt dogshit u can throw Rs for slow and escape if need be. Doesnt really build bork anymore so i think he just loses every 1v1 post 1 item, just avoid fighting him in a wave for ravenous healing cuz it can be quite strong.

Ambessa matchup: Force an extended trade into Ambessa and u will basically always win. The main problem is that Ambessa REALLY doesnt have to extended trade u if she doesnt want to, u need very good wave management for this or u need to outplay her Q's, if she ever E's towards u you will win, be wary of her using R point blank to avoid a full stack Q/R. Electro ambessa is cringe but more easy to play into imo VS grasp, because a lot of trades even if she misses spells with grasp it can do a lot of heavy lifting whereas if she misses her spells and doesnt get electro its very rough for her, the defensiveness of Resolve and Dshield is very strong early and not to be underestimated. Keep in mind that her W will literally from level 1 to 18 ALWAYS be able to tank a full stack Q completely.

Camille matchup: I think Camille is fairly easy pre 1 item its just who can space better. Trinity damage is very high and u shouldnt disrespect once she has it, 2 items+ u hard win tho unless u get hit by E like and idiot, avoid E at all costs even if u have to dash into an unfavourble position.

Darius matchup: I hate this champion despite the fact Gwen has a fairly solid time into him. Universal Darius gameplay, dont get hooked or u probably just die. U can use either E or W to avoid both his E and Q but generally using e to avoid his Q is better because u have the option of either dashing in to avoid Q and forcing the fight or dashing away and having the ability to W his E and escape. Level 9+ be aware that on basically all all-ins he will have 2 uses of Q but generally ur E cd esp with elixir is low enough atp to avoid both as long as u get resets.

Garen matchup: I think this matchup is not hard for Gwen but u are defo capable of just dying for 0 by getting caught out. E his Q, dont trade in his E unless ur very sure ur gonna be able to win the all in, play around his W always because every time this ability is off cd he is immortal. Just simply never ego a Garen and ideally avoid him if youre 80% or lower because he has the ability to just OS u from this point (6+ ofc)

Kled matchup: Just dont fight Kled early LOL

Singed matchup: Scaling matchup. He can kill you early esp with conq ignite just dont fall for the cheese and respect his stupid amount of damage, the hardest part about playing against singed is the impact he can have on topside of the map and your jungler, good invades can be setup from his proxy and he is NOT weak in skirmishes for shit like grubs he will do well in these scenarios. I would say its heavily dependant on what your and enemy jgls champs are as to if you should 2v2 against singed. Hard outscales u in teamfight imo but he is a sidelane victim, if he is forced to side you unless he has a full damage build which often they dont run then with like 1 cannon wave or a stacked wave can take a tower in his face pretty easily.

Volibear matchup: I think Voli and Garen are kinda the same champion, they both just run at u with Q and u avoid it while QEing away, Voli defo has a bit more potential to force on u and have gank setups with R but I think that due to him always pushing waves u can kinda just chill and farm. If he rushes spirit do not fight u will not win regardless of if u have ignite or not, hes very free if he builds any item that isnt MR at 1, depends if he has navori/dusk post 2 items. I think navori is harder for Gwen to deal with and if he has both for whatever reason then just do not fucking engage ever I actually dont think u can kill him at like 6 items.

Ornn matchup: Tanks are weird for Gwen because early MR is really strong against her, but you obviously outscale later. U get to build Rift first for free which is good because I think its Gwens best item. Never disrespect his damage, u kinda always wanna W his R but there are situations in trade when u can W his W, I prefer to just sit and farm after he gets MR. Ornn also has really good waveclear if hes allowed to press all his spells on wave so good macro is important against him

Udyr matchup: Depends what Udyr builds I havent seen this champ in a while. AD udyr is free just dont stand away from ur wave, if youre that scared u can treat it like voli/garen and E away whenever he runs at u. AP Udyr is very cringe he has high damage potential and its just best to avoid fighting him, W spacing on his Phoenix is whatever unless hes for some reason raw throwing awakened at u then sure.

Yorick matchup: Just avoid E and hes not a champ. Gwen generally doesnt like enemy splitpushers IMO because theyre always capable of matching her and are usually good duelists so u cant just take a tower in their face. Yorick is NOT this and u are genuinely capable of just taking a tower in his face mid/late (moreso late) and being a better splitpusher than him.

Aatrox matchup: I PERSONALLY HATE THIS MATCHUP I THINK THIS CHAMP IS SUPER DUPER CRINGE. Playing into Aatrox is like playing into a ranged champ that has to have half the amount of skill in spacing, forcing on him isnt particularly viable he can just run with W and E and R if need. Literally just focus on avoiding his Q1 and ur fine, W his Q2 because like 90% of the Aatrox playerbase are AI and will always EQ2 so its just a free engage for u. Always avoid his W because it can genuinely put u in a bad spot this champ does not lack damage. IDK if its new meta or not but the build with Electro and cyclosword is both good and bad, u will get punished way harder for bad movement but you will also punish way harder if u have good movement, its still cringe tho.

Gangplank matchup: If GP is solarbacca then its S+++++ Tier but every other GP is ass. Every barrel minigame u win is a free q on gp while he gets 0 damage, just dont lose them and he is not real, you have an AA reset and he doesnt. GPs will generally try to poke u with Q on repeat and honestly with the reverted essence it can hit quite hard but again u just all in the guy ideally u EW his Q as the all in and u will just hard win.

Gnar matchup: Force out his E and u have a major trade window when hes in mini, you can outright beat him in mega with good spacing on ur W, thats kinda it just avoid his mini qs and dont disrespect his ability to run you down/kite you

Sett matchup: Has the capability to win and somewhat bully u early but its still very in ur favour. E his E and youre fine, never take a trade in ur own wave (which yeah isnt super easy to do but yknow) and u will basically always win as long as u W his W. He defo has the damage to just kill u even without W but imo just go rift and u will hard stomp.

K'Santé matchup: Ksante has bullshit to kill u and by bullshit i mean if youre just getting hit by his W for no reason. I think we're at a point where every Gwen understand this matchup cuz like half the playerbase picked up Gwen to counter Ksante. Same situation for most tanks, early MR makes game very hard but funnily enough u can still very much kill ksante despite this, IF YOU HAVE RIFT. (Which u should be building into tanks)

Kennen matchup: Go Exhaust and sidestep Q's and u will hard win any time kennen forces on u. Now killing the guy when he doesnt force on u is a bit hard but u can outplay bad spacing same as every ranged matchup. just turtle and perma sidelane because fuck being in a teamfight against Kenne.

Heimerdinger matchup: Incredibly annoying champ to face, just let him push and farm and W his E and u will basically always win, tho its a bit of a tossup if he has his W up but they tend to throw it at u to poke to just predict and ur fine.

Dr. Mundo matchup: U need good wave management to deal with mundo early because he will just farm with cleavers if he has to and tanking them on repeat to deny cs isnt very viable. I am a personal advocate for Ghost and just rushing oblivion orb because you have much easier kill windows on him. U will literally always outscale this champ so even if u are not coming out of lane 5/0 dont sweat it. Even if he kills ur entire team behind u while ur dealing with enemy backline a like 500hp Gwen esp with rift and antiheal can kill a 6k hp Mundo.

Mordekaiser matchup: I would argue this is the easiest Gwen matchup because unlike champs like Mundo who will just farm from a distance Mord is really incapable of doing that. Avoid Q's avoid his E, rush tier 1s if u really want. (Theyre never a bad choice if u have a spare 300 gold) If an all-in is bound to happen NEVER W BEFORE HE ULTS he will gain the tank stats that can be very strong in death realm. The majority of Mordes go Rylais first and I think while cringe the item is turbo shit into Gwen because when an all in is happening she lowk can just facetank him, esp with Rift, if he goes Rift first u have to play the engagement a lot better but its still not hard, E through him if u are able to avoid Q. Always attempt to never fight him while he has max W.

Illaoi matchup: Avoid E and u win, get hit by E and watch ur HP bar literally disappear. There is quite a large window for Illaoi to E u after you've used W to so u have to just be hyper aware of it, generally I find that bad Illaois will just try to raw throw E at me and u can just W and engage and kill for it, but decent Illaois will wait for u to get close so its harder to react, its best to just avoid her until like 2 items imo but u have the capability to kill her for sure. Also dont disrespect her damage with spawned tentacles regardless of if she hits E or not she can put out some serious damage, and more importantly sustain which if ur really unlucky (or u have rift components) means she can get her E back and probably kill u.

Poppy matchup: Dont get pushed into the wall and respect her Q damage because if u get hit by both parts u will get traded very hard. Poppy is more of a threat in mid/late imo because she can just run into ur W to get rid of u if she has to. I think that if youre getting hit by Poppy W consistently in lane its a skill issue u really dont need to dash into her a lot of the time and if u do ur W immunity will stop her W with good spacing.

Shen matchup: Avoid Shen's ability to lanebully early with good movement and u will hard outscale, if youre that scared of this matchup just go rift and farm, unless ur very unlucky he will never be more useful than u over the course of a game

Tahm Kench matchup: Average tank matchup, MR rush is hard to kill. I personally wouldnt recommend TRYING to kill a TK with MR early because chances are he will kill u. Sidestep Q's, W them if ur forced to, ur W cd and his W CD are fairly matched so his general engage of QW isnt always possible. Just never disrespect a TK especially near his tower. I dont think dusk and dawn changes literally anything for this matchup, you were never really gonna try to run a TK down post 6 because he will just run and then eat u and spit u under tower but like after this point he cant really escape u and u just outdamage. Again Rift is good here.

Swain matchup: This matchup is maybe the most unfun matchup for Gwen in the game that isnt one where u just outright lose (because losing is never fun). He is in F tier because you WILL beat him but u just wont have fun with it ever, his q cd is so short and ur ability to trade against him is very limited, its also like impossible to swain to miss q unless he has an IQ of 60 or ur a spacing god. Generally he suffers from Morde syndrome and will rush Rylais and u can just run him down, if in the event he goes Rift u still win but u really have to kill before ur ignite stops ticking. Generally they run Ghost Flash which really depends on how they use it, Ghost is relatively useless into Gwen because ur R is enough to keep him fairly on top of u, but as is known u flash a Gwen Q or R3 early and ur probably not gonna die. I would say only trade ur flash for his and never for his Ghost, because tbh I dont really see a situation unless u played bad where his Ghost is doing anything to kill u.

Sion matchup: Easiest Gwen matchup in the game. I personally just dislike the way Sion plays. I don't really have tips for this matchup like just dont be shit and he cant kill u ever? I'm honestly more happy to see people play AD sion into me because MR rush sion is fucking unkillable especially early, either build goes the exact same. I guess for AD just respect his ability to start the fight with R and how much damage it will do.
